如果現實讓你透不過氣來，你可以試著聽Faé。

筆者初次接觸Faé，是透過Grimes的Instagram。認識這位加拿大唱作人都知道她是一個從不隨波逐流的女子。作曲、填詞、監製、美指、混音、執導、剪片，每件事都親力親為，隨手舉起手機就拍出四個MV來。

創作者最討厭聽到的問題，就是「你如何界定的你作品？」Grimes平時從記者的提問中也聽不少。兩年前Grimes接受訪問時提到，她的音樂是「不能歸類」的，「不斷替自己的作品歸類，幾個月後又推翻先前的想法，不是很無謂嗎？」（The whole purpose of Grimes is that it’s genreless. Trying to constantly put a genre label on it makes no sense and then you are always eating your words two months later. So, why bother?）是的，硬要將作品放到別人所設立的類別，只會對造成一種框框。於是，Grimes索性為自己的音樂建立一個全新的類型──Faé。

The faé are the children living at the end of the world, who make art that reflects what its like to live knowing the earth may not sustain humanity much longer.

Faé是仙子，他們身材細小，擁有如蜻蜓般的翅膀和強大的魔力。Grimes形容Faé音樂人就是一群「活在末世的孩子」，他們的創作反映這種處境，既然知道地球快要支撐不住，就用魔音似的古怪音樂向世界發出吶喊和啟示。Grimes為Faé起了另一個名字，就是「末日次類」（apocalypse subgenera）。

We live knowing that environmentally driven genocide is high, that the least equipped are to be struck down by the very earth itself. Repentance by the innocent for the sins of the rich. This does not mean that all faé art is directly about this, but that the influence of this reality is inescapable for the faé.

別誤會，Grimes並不是要將其他人的作品分類，她表示歌單上的作品都是來自一些她很喜歡的獨立音樂人，這些音樂人也是經常被形容作「異類」，那麼，就讓異類走在一起吧。

Faé音樂通常都以電子合成器伴奏，是沈鬱版的EDM，聽下去有種厭世的頹廢味，但卻不自我放棄。這是Faé的特色，卻不是全部。或者，Faé是一種感覺吧。除了Grimes的推介之外，筆者認為以下這些音樂人跟Faé也有一點點相襯的，不知道你又有其他建議嗎？

地球在背後崩壞，就讓我們戴上耳機，聽著這些音樂尋找一點慰藉。
