Korean’s big enthusiasm for food is already well known. They do indeed, have peculiar interests in terms of enjoying food- not to mention their must-do obligation of taking lovely pictures of food before you eat, but also for their watching Meok-bang. Meok-bang has been already introduced to you on Hf. Meok-bang, also as known as food porn, literally means broadcasting of someone having a meal. So watching Meok-bang is to watch over someone eating food over the Internet, just like you were to watch a mellow drama or a movie from the TV screen. Well now, Koreans are taking Meok-bang into a whole new level, to Cook-bang.
As it can be guessed from its name, while Meok-bang broadcasts the “eating” part, Cook-bang mainly focuses on the cooking process itself; people broadcast themselves cooking delicious food through the Internet. Some might ask what the difference is between Cook-bang and the existing cooking programs. Well, here are the big differences – the broadcaster doesn’t need to be an expert chef, and also you don’t need to use some special ingredients or be a professional to follow them. If existing old cooking programs were hosted by culinary masters and presented expensive menu using special ingredients, nowadays, many are about cooking daily food casted by ordinary people or sometimes celebrities. The highlight goes on how common ingredients turns into wonderful dishes you could never think of. Now, Hf will introduce you to some of the most famous Cook-bang shows, those Jamie Olivers of Korea.

YouTube – SOF (소프)
You may subscribe to Cook-bang on YouTube easily. SOF is one of the famous Cook-bang shows hosted by an ordinary, common man. After him and many other broadcasters like him, people termed “Cheftainer” by mixing chef and entertainer together.
What is today’s menu? (오늘은 뭐먹지?)
What is today’s menu is a program on the lifestyle corner of Olive TV Korea, casting top two entertainer celebrities, Dongyup Shin (신동엽)and Sikyung Sung (성시경) (those who are already famous by show Witch-hunt 마녀사냥). Also, this online website introduces the required ingredients in advance so that viewers can prepare them and follow the procedures while watching TV.
Some analysts say that Cook-bang is another form of leisure activity. As the living standards improve, people put more attention on how to spend their pastime better. If past were about filling your stomach, people nowadays consider eating as part of their leisure activity, hence, they are always on the hunt for better food. Some claim that Cook-bang’s popularity points out the fact that women’s social status has been improved, since female viewers seek male chef to replace the traditional women’s role; most of these Chef-tainers are male chefs who are not only good at cooking but also are handsome. Whatever the reason is, Cook-bang is now replacing Meok-bang in Korea, and thanks to this change, more Korean men are interested in cooking. If you have a boyfriend, why don’t you watch Cook-bang together with him and suggest cooking together, or even more, ask him to cook for you?
