早前,包括Emma Watson、Tom Felton等幾位《哈利波特》(Harry Potter)電影系列的主演們再次聚首,時隔多年的合照更是勾起影迷們的回憶和感慨;然而另一邊廂,一手打造這個魔法世界的作者J.K.羅琳(J.K. Rowling)最近卻陷入了輿論風波,事緣她在社交媒體上公開支持一位因發佈歧視跨性別人群言論而被解僱的研究人員,瞬間受到許多包括LGBTQ+權利組織在內的廣泛批評。
這位作家並不常在Twitter上隨便發表言論,但關注她的1460萬名粉絲們卻未曾想到,事隔兩個月收到、關於J.K.羅琳的新動態會是這樣一條備受爭議的消息——她在推文中寫到:「你愛怎麼穿就怎麼穿;你喜歡叫自己什麼就叫什麼;你可以和任何自願的成年人同床共枕,在和平與安穩中度過美好的生活,但因為女性說出真實的性別言論就要把她們趕出工作崗位嗎?」

J.K.羅琳所支持的這位女性名為Maya Forstater,她本在致力於研究反貧困方針的全球發展中心(Center for Global Development)擔任研究員,但最近被就業法庭因她在Twitter上發表一系列被認為具有「冒犯性和排他性」的內容而被辭退。在法院公佈的文件中, Forstater曾公開說出「男人不能變成女人」、「跨性別女性參加女子運動是不公平和不安全的」等敵視跨性別人群的言論,法官因此判定她否定和無視了跨性別者的合法權利,其言論「沒有尊重人性的尊嚴與他人的基本權利」。
非盈利組織GLAAD由身處媒體行業中的LGBT人士所創辦,負責人Anthony Ramos在聲明中對J.K.羅琳的做法表達了擔憂和譴責:「這將使跨性別人士身處危險之中。她的書給予了孩子們希望,他們可以一起創造一個更美好的世界……但現在她已經和反科學意識形態(anti-science ideology)站在一起,而這種意識形態否定了跨性別者的基本人權。」

J.K.羅琳的做法的確讓許多書迷和影迷們大感失望和傷心,特別是不少的跨性別粉絲。不少人更發現這位作家較早前便已有涉及歧視跨性別人群的行為,例如在她2015年出版的小說The Silkworm中,她對其中一名跨性別角色的描寫便被認為帶有侮辱性,去年她更讚好了一條關於指責變性女性是「穿著裙子的男人」的推文;即使她曾透露筆下的高人氣角色Dumbledore是同志身份,但讀者認為種種歧視行為與她公開表現出對LGBTQ +社群的支持並不相符,她所創造的魔法世界已經跟不上現實世界的進步了。

但也有粉絲用在《哈利波特》的世界中學到的精神鼓勵彼此,其中便有一條推文說到:「對於那些傷心欲絕的跨性別粉絲來說,請記住Hargrid(書中角色)說過的話:『我就是我,我不感到羞愧。我的父親曾說永遠不要羞愧,有些人會反對你,但他們不值得被放在心上。』」也有人用在《哈利波特》電影中飾演Hermione Granger的Emma Watson發佈的一張照片作為回覆——在這張照片中,Emma做出「充滿力量」的動作,而她的T恤上則寫著一雖簡單卻十分重要的話:「跨性別者的權利是人權。」(“Trans Rights are Human rights”)
