London Collections: Men Wrap Up
The three-day (15-17 June 2014) London men’s fashion ‘week’ finally came to an end after showcasing works from over sixty designers. If you’ve missed the show, no worries, HOKK fabrica has wrapped it up for you. Read on for the latest Spring 2015 trends.
01 Muted Colours
The runway has been flying with muted colours. We see a lot of pastels, particularly soft pinks, lavenders and cornflower blues, introducing a tender side of masculinity.
02 70s Vibe
The Hippies are back with their flower power! Katie Eary is staying loyal to the 70s’ aesthetics with her psychedelic tops and peace motifs, while Topman has chosen to be a little bit more discreet with bootlegged jeans and loud-but-wearable daisy patterns.
03 Collar details and Leather bibs
Topman really knows how to impress through details and this is probably one of my favourite trends throughout the show. I like how the loud patterns on the shirt underneath gives the entire outfit a pop of colour, adding fun to suits without compromising formality. Leather bibs were spotted at MAN – hmmm, what do you think about this new accessory?
04 Metallics and Interesting Textures
A lot of gold and silver flashes down the runway in knits, satins, and as patterns. We also see Kent & Cruwen suits using unusual fabrics with a hint of metallic, which somehow downgrades a supposedly expensive-looking suit. My personal favourite is Johnathan Saunders’ marble textured fitted suit, a nice way of spicing up light-coloured suits.
05 Oversized School Boy
Designers are taking us back to old school days when our mums used to dictate what we wear. Remember how we used to tuck our clothes neatly into drawstring shorts like how James Long is reliving it? And how we used to sleep in our Disney PJs straight in a row despite our mothers’ protests? Watch how Christopher Shannon updates the schoolboy look with luxury fabrics.
06 Sporty
The sporty vibe has been on the runway for several seasons and now Astrid Anderson is taking the sporty look to the next level by introducing the lace element into menswear. If you’re more of a conservative athlete, why not try the Kent & Curwen aristocratic sportswear look or Alexander McQueen’s Olympic-esque gears?
07 Floral & Fauna
Nature is always a good source for inspiration. J. W. Anderson’s animal prints give an extremely posh look. We’re loving the cheetah print shoes and reptile jacket combination. Hentsch Man employs youthful florals and creates a laid-back holiday look.
08 Check mate!
Squares have not left the runway and are appearing in Richard Nicoll jumspsuits and MAN’s patchwork details. Add a patterned scarf for a more experimental look like Chester Barrie.
09 Long Outerwear
We see long versions of what used to be short, like the Casely Hayford long baseball jacket and Jonathan Saunders’ windbreakers. Burberry is keeping that preppy look while playing with unusual shades of turquoise.
10 Like a Woman
These designers know how to blend the genders. Agi & Sam tries the white smock nurse look on a bulky model while J. D. Anderson borrows the off-shoulder look from women. There’s also a lot of cutouts, cropped tops, mesh, and midriffs on show.
What do you think about the menswear trends of Spring 2015? Haute or not?
